Asphalt plant with double drum to separate the drying and mixing process is very effective compared to the single drum asphalt plants. Fuel efficiency and mixing quality in the doubled drum asphalt equipment is enhanced.

 

The double drum of the drum mix plant is counterflow type. Mixing drum of double drum type asphalt mixing plants is separate ensuring that bitumen is not exposed to high temperature. it is also possible to control the temperature of the aggregates when they enter the mixing drum. The dust suction is done at the drying drum and hence only clean and dust free aggregates enter the mixing drum of the hot mix asphalt plant.

1. Direction of the flame & flow of aggregates is parallel hence it is less effective and consumes more fuel. Direction of burner flame and aggregates is opposite. This counter flow type heating ensures better heating of aggregates at less fuel consumption.
2. Heating & mixing action takes place in single drum & dust is exhausted is after mixing process & hence a good quality mix cannot be achieved. Drying & mixing process takes place in separate drum. Dust is absorbed at the inlet of drying drum thus allowing clean & dust free aggregates to enter the mixing drum ensuring better mix quality.
3. There is no provision to measure the temperature of hot aggregates as both drying & mixing process take place in single drum. Since heating of aggregates takes place in separate drum, measuring temperature of hot aggregates is possible. Its temperature can also be controlled before its moves to mixing zone.
4. Sometimes an increase in burner flame may cause burning of asphalt leading to fire & may spoil the mix quality. This burnt mix may cause burning of conveyor belt at the discharge end of drum. Since heating & mixing process takes place in separate drums, the burner flame is nowhere in contact with asphalt, other valuable liquids or additives. Asphalt is not exposed to extreme temperatures.

COLD AGGREGATE FEEDER

Double drum type asphalt mix plant come with suitable type of aggregate feeders. These cold feed bins are important asphalt plant parts of asphalt drum mix plants.

The flow of material can be regulated individually under each bin and a large gathering conveyor collectively transfers all the aggregates to the vibrating screen of the asphalt mix plants.

VIBRATING SCREEN

Vibrating screen is a very important asphalt plant equipment. It is placed at the end of cold aggregate feeder.

Its use is to remove the oversized aggregates before they enter the drying drum.

SLINGER CONVEYOR

Slinger conveyor of double drum type asphalt plant is to measure the combined weight of the aggregates before they enter the drying drum.

It is equipped with a load cell and also transfer the aggregates to the drying drum.

BURNER FOR DRYING DRUM

The dryer drum of asphalt plant is counterflow type resulting in better heating of the aggregates.

Aggregates are heated to required temperature reducing the moisture content to minimum. The low noise burner of asphalt manufacturing plant is designed to heat the aggregates without any unburnt fuel.

DRYING DRUM OF ASPHALT PLANT

This is the highlight feature of the double drum type asphalt drum mixing plants. The drying drum is counterflow type and dust collection is done at the entry of the aggregates in the drum.

This helps to achieve a better hot mix asphalt quality.

Since the mixing drum is separate, bitumen does not come in direct contact with the flame or high temperature.

BITUMEN STORAGE AND TRANSFER TANKS

Bitumen storage tanks of various capacities can be provided with the asphalt machinery. Extra bitumen tanks can also be provided with the asphalt drum mix plant to supplement the storage of bitumen.
 
Load out conveyor

LOAD OUT CONVEYOR

The hot mix asphalt material which is discharged from the mixing drum, falls on the load out conveyor which takes the material upto the GOB hopper or storage silo. GOB hopper gate open close is hydraulically controlled. GOB hopper holds the mi material while changing truck and also helps to control segregation.

CONTROL PANEL OF HOT MIX PLANT

Atlas hot mix plants come with microprocessor based control panel or PLC based control panel.

Microprocessor panel for asphalt drum mixing plant comes with user friendly software for ease of operation.

PLC panel is better compared to microprocessor based panel board. It is low on maintenance and allows alteration of programming in the software.

Be it microprocessor panel or PLC panel, the drum mix plant can run on both auto and manual modes.

CONTROL CABIN

The cabin supplied with asphalt mix plant continuous type is MS structured and insulated. Its location ensures good view of the entire plant.
 
Pollution control units

POLLUTION CONTROL UNITS

Venturi type wet dust collectors are used as pollution control units.

The dust which is sucked, is treated by a dry dust collector and then by venturi type wet dust collector eventually settling the dust.

Stainless steel nozzles provide clog free operation of the pollution control device and allow high efficiency for longer working hours.
